The Master of Science in Food Safety at the University of Arkansas is available in a completely online format. The program is designed with working professionals in mind and allows students to learn from experts in the field of agriculture, food and life sciences. Students gain an understanding of food safety, quality assurance and risk management. The program is based on United States standards such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points. About The University of Arkansas
The University of Arkansas was the first public university in Arkansas, established in 1871 as the state was still recovering from the Civil War. Although many thought establishing an institute of higher learning was foolish at the time, it was actually one of the few achievements during the Reconstruction Era that brought former rivals together. The school was established as a land-grant institution under the Morrill Land-Grant Act. There were two bids for the location of the new school with Washington County the successful bidder. A farm owned by William McIlroy was chosen as the site and the board purchased 160 acres, building a temporary structure to start classes.
As students began finding their way to Fayetteville, the school realized that many of them lacked the educational background necessary to succeed. To address the problem, the school began offering preparatory classes in order to give students the foundation necessary to succeed.
After World War II, soldiers returning from the war took advantage of the G.I. Bill and enrollment grew. The university was the first land-grant institution to assemble an agricultural foreign mission. The mission was established in Panama in 1951. Today, there are 27,558 enrolled at the university.
University of Arkansas Accreditation Details

University of Arkansas Application Requirements
Students who have not earned college credit beyond high school graduation are considered freshmen at the University of Arkansas. Students must complete an application and submit official high school transcripts as well as official ACT or SAT scores.
Students who have earned college credit after high school graduation must complete an application and submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Students with fewer than 24 credits must have a high school GPA of 3.0 and a cumulative college GPA of 2.0. Students must also have a minimum score of 20 on the ACT or an equivalent score on the SAT. Students who have more than 24 hours of college credit must have a 2.0 cumulative college GPA.
Graduate admission requirements vary depending on the program the student chooses. Students must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and are encouraged to speak to an admissions counselor before applying.
The University of Arkansas Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time undergraduate tuition at the University of Arkansas is $7,384 per year for residents of Arkansas. Non-residents pay $22,630 per year. Graduate tuition for Arkansas residents is $10,084 and for non-residents is $26,378. Part-time undergraduate tuition is $302.07 per credit hour for residents and $810.26 for non-residents. Part-time graduate tuition is $476.19 per credit hour for residents and $1,155.10 for non-residents.
Financial aid is available in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
